Expanding Access To Name, Image, And Likeness (NIL)

Published by Nikki Palmer on Fri, 10/27/2023 - 2:00am

On and off the court, Jaz Shelley is a star for the University of Nebraska-Lincoln (UNL) basketball team. Jaz earned first-team All-Big Ten honors for her electric play. She earned Academic All-Big Ten honors for her work in the classroom. She’s beloved with fans and teammates alike. Like many players, she receives requests from businesses and nonprofits to lend her name, image, and likeness (NIL) in support of a local business or work a summer camp for kids.

History Encourages Optimists

Published by Nikki Palmer on Thu, 10/26/2023 - 2:00am

If truth is the first casualty of war, the loss of hope surely runs a close second.

As war now diminishes us on at least two fronts and expectations for peace dim further, a genuine sadness permeates our days. Adding to the malaise is dysfunction permeating our politics and the stench of intolerance, bigotry and hate wafting through our lives. So what chance does hopefulness have?

On The U.S. Economy

Published by Nikki Palmer on Tue, 10/24/2023 - 1:00am

The U.S. economy is in the early stages of an once-in-a-lifetime shift from an economy powered by fossil fuels. To prevent catastrophic climate change we have to switch quickly to electric vehicles and appliances fueled by renewable energy.

But it shouldn’t come at the expense of good-paying jobs — and it doesn’t have to.

Let’s Talk About Mental Health

Published by Nikki Palmer on Mon, 10/23/2023 - 2:00am

What if I told you there was something that would help ease the problem of our overcrowded prisons? What if I said this same solution would help alleviate the homeless situation? Prevent suicides? Cut back on the number of domestic violence calls? Drunk driving deaths? And improve employee attendance records?

Bullying Should Not Be Tolerated

Published by Nikki Palmer on Fri, 10/20/2023 - 2:00am

Bullying is a pervasive problem that affects countless children across the United States, damaging not only their school experience but also their mental health and well-being. As we delve into October, the month the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services designates to raise awareness about bullying, it’s imperative that Nebraskans educate themselves on the signs and harmful consequences of this torment.

Using A Key Word Helps You Get The Right Tenant

Published by Nikki Palmer on Thu, 10/19/2023 - 3:00am

When Summer hits, I look forward to slipping on my waders, stepping into a river, and casting my fly rod in search of that trophy fish.  But before I do, I always go through a list of things to prepare me for success.  I check the local regulations and consult the local guides and experts to see where the fish are and what they are biting.  Armed with this knowledge, it is left up to me to identify the specific fish (usually German brown or rainbow trout) I want to cast to and catch.  You will be casting into an ever-

Goats Can Be A Flammable Forest’s Best Friend

Published by jason@omahadail... on Wed, 10/18/2023 - 4:00am

Goats are particularly good at one thing: Eating. Unlike a horse or cow that leaves noxious weeds behind, goats eat the whole menu of pesky weeds, bushes and small trees. That means goats can be one of the answers to the growing problem of tinder-dry, highly flammable forests.

Hard-Working Immigrants Can Help Nebraska With Our Labor Shortage

Published by jason@omahadail... on Tue, 10/17/2023 - 4:00am

I love representing the hospitality industry here in Nebraska, the state where my great-grandfather arrived from Denmark years ago. Nebraska has much to offer — from the joys of tanking down its rivers to the stunning view from atop Scotts Bluff National Monument.

This Is Not An Endorsement … But …

Published by jason@omahadail... on Mon, 10/16/2023 - 4:00am

I went to the kickoff announcement of the Dan Osborn for Senate campaign. The event was well attended for something like that, but it wasn’t overflowing. Then again, unless you have a powerful political party with a lot of money behind you, events like these are rarely overflowing.

I’ve been to a lot of these things over the years, but this one was a little different.

You see Dan Osborn is an independent running to replace incumbent Senator Deb Fisher. As Aaron Sanderford with the Nebraska Examiner put it, he is neither helped nor hindered by a political party.
