Does Integrity Even Matter Anymore?

Published by maggie@omahadai... on Fri, 06/05/2026 - 12:00am

I don’t normally write about political battles that don’t affect us here in Nebraska, but I have to admit I am fascinated, perplexed, concerned, amused and saddened, by what just happened in Texas during the primary runoff between incumbent senator James Cornyn and the newly crowned nominee Ken Paxton.

As I read the news reports of all that went down, I was struck by the mixed emotions I felt.

Brain Dump – A Serialized Sci-fi Drama: Part 6

Published by maggie@omahadai... on Wed, 06/03/2026 - 12:00am

The next morning found Jenna begrudgingly trudging to work for the first time. She already couldn’t wait for the day to be over, despite the bright and cheery morning Friday offered. She walked slowly down the sidewalk, iced coffee hanging at her side.

She shuffled through the security gate and was surprised to see Felicity waiting for her. She looked rather tense and motioned quickly for Jenna to meet her.

“What’s the matter?” Jenna asked as Felicity pulled her into the women’s restroom.

A Different Kind Of Memorial Day

Published by maggie@omahadai... on Tue, 06/02/2026 - 12:00am

Memorial Day has always meant more to me than just the unofficial start of summer.

Of course, I enjoy the bar-b-ques, the baseball games and the extra day off. But I also take time to remember those who sacrificed their lives for this country. I take the time to reflect on what the day really means.

This Memorial Day felt a little different than those I remember from years past. Instead of the respect and appreciation that I normally feel for those who died. I felt a sense of deep sadness.

Will The Price Be Worth It?

Published by maggie@omahadai... on Mon, 06/01/2026 - 12:00am

I want to know how much Pete Ricketts, Deb Fischer, Don Bacon, Mike Flood or Adrian Smith thinks the January 6th insurrectionists should get for threatening to kill them. What’s the going rate for attempting to murder a member of Congress? What’s the payday for trying to overthrow the government?

Should the J6’rs who wanted to hang the Vice President get more than those who just broke in and shit on Nancy Pelosi’s desk? Or should every convicted rioter get the same amount of cash regardless of the severity of the crime?

Getting Offline

Published by maggie@omahadai... on Thu, 05/28/2026 - 12:00am

I guess I shouldn’t have been surprised.

I shouldn’t have been surprised that a picture I innocently posted on Facebook started an argument. But all I did was post a picture on my page that showed the price of gas.

Now I suppose Freud, or some other psychiatrist, would say that I posted that picture subconsciously to start an argument, but I swear I just posted it out of frustration without saying a word.

Brain Dump – A Serialized Sci-fi Drama: Part 5

Published by maggie@omahadai... on Wed, 05/27/2026 - 12:00am

Thursday afternoon bled into evening. Jenna had struggled to focus ever since her argument with Felicity. Mr. Ternal’s files were still on her computer. She moved on to another project to try to clear her head and make some semblance of progress, but the twisting knot in her stomach refused to relent. Felicity did at least apologize before she left, as had Jenna. But now she sat by herself in a slowly darkening office with absolutely no sense of closure. She let out a long sigh and decided to take Felicity’s parting advice to just leave it till tomorrow.

A Letter To Denise Powell

Published by maggie@omahadai... on Fri, 05/22/2026 - 12:00am

Dear Denise Powell,

Congratulations on winning the Democratic Party nomination for District Two. It was a hard-fought battle, but you made it to the finish line.

Nothing personal, but you were not my first choice. While you got your voters worried about losing the blue dot, I was worried about not getting a Democratic majority in the House. I thought and still feel that either John Cavanaugh or Kishla Askins had a better chance to beat Brinker Harding than you do.

But I’m open to being proven wrong. I hope I’m proven wrong.

Brain Dump – A Serialized Sci-fi Drama: Part 4

Published by maggie@omahadai... on Wed, 05/20/2026 - 12:00am

It took the rest of the morning for Felicity to convince Jenna she wasn’t going to get fired.

“Jenna, seriously,” Felicity continued. “In my first recording session, I got tongue-tied and accidentally triggered a really important doctor to recall a childhood memory of some creepy clown at a circus.”

“Eww, really?” Jenna laughed.

“Yeah, just chill,” Felicity said. “But seriously, you’re gonna have to show me the footage of these supposed ‘convulsions’.”

“But I’m supposed to delete it, right?” Jenna asked.

Don’t Let The Hecklers Take Over The Government

Published by maggie@omahadai... on Mon, 05/18/2026 - 12:00am

If you’ve been to a comedy club more than once, there’s a good chance that at some point the comedian and the crowd have had to deal with a heckler.

Now, sometimes the heckler can be used for comedic fodder. They say something, the comic strikes back, the crowd laughs, and hopefully that’s the end of it.

But sometimes the heckler just keeps it up, and it loses its appeal. The crowd starts to turn on the heckler, and in extreme cases, the disruptor is removed from the club.

Sometimes the comic can get the crowd back, and sometimes they can’t.

Remember When We Weren’t Paying For A Ballroom?

Published by maggie@omahadai... on Fri, 05/15/2026 - 12:00am

Remember when President Trump was a first-time candidate and he said that if he were elected, he would get Mexico to pay for the border wall?

Well, that didn’t happen.

And remember when Trump was running again in 2024 and he said that he would stop inflation, have a healthcare plan in two weeks, release his taxes, bring down the price of gas, and end wars?

Well, that didn’t happen either.
