The Only Thing We Have To Fear Is Fear Itself

Published by jason@omahadail... on Fri, 02/06/2026 - 12:00am

What’s happening in Minnesota is having a chilling effect on what is happening right here in our own backyard.

While all the headlines and viral videos show the ICE agents pepper-spraying, beating, and even killing alleged illegal immigrants and citizen protestors, the fear has spread to Omaha and other cities across America.

Allow me to explain.

OPINION: Property Taxpayers Should Pay Attention This Year

Published by jason@omahadail... on Thu, 02/05/2026 - 12:00am

Rural Nebraska must stay vigilant to happenings in Lincoln. Without vigilance, there will be efforts to throw some of us under the bus. One such effort in the Nebraska Legislature could be Legislative Bill 1038.

LB 1038 seeks to drive down property taxes in higher levy school districts by increasing state funding of those schools. Unfortunately, as introduced, it would accomplish this by stripping Nebraskans of two key property tax credit programs and impose huge property tax increases on many Nebraskans.

I’m Not Surprised But I’ll Admit I’m Still Stunned.

Published by jason@omahadail... on Wed, 02/04/2026 - 12:00am

I’m not surprised but I’ll admit I’m still stunned.

I’m not surprised that the Trump administration went after a journalist.  After all, the President has called the news media “The enemy of the people.” He constantly attacks reporters at his rallies by calling those covering the event “fake news.”

So, I’m not surprised that even after two magistrate judges denied the administration’s attempt to charge Don Lemon with violating the FACE act for reporting on a protest in a church, that Pam Bondi gave orders to have him arrested.

A Red Heart, Blue Veins: The Measure of a Man

Published by jason@omahadail... on Tue, 02/03/2026 - 12:00am

There is a tragedy which I have attempted to write about on three separate occasions now. With each attempt a fear grows in me that half of the readers who are reading this article will set it down as its contents will be regarded as “team blue!” or, "doesn't go far enough against team red!" Rah Rah! I do not write this article as a centrist, but as an American, whose heart is red, whose veins are blue – who believes that a nation divided is a nation that will fall. Then where will we be, but for the first time in our nation's history, at the mercy of others?

Our Slithering Monster; Which Has Eaten Discourse

Published by jason@omahadail... on Mon, 02/02/2026 - 12:00am

Anyone who has been in enough face-to-face debates with other people understand just how difficult it is to convince another person of their point of view, let alone to seem as the ‘winner’ by whichever audience is watching, be it a group of coworkers who have gathered around or a bunch of guys at a bar. People who debate often enough do their best to generally avoid drawing onlookers into the debate – unless they know that the person they are drawing in supports their viewpoint.

Is It Really About Illegal Immigration?

Published by jason@omahadail... on Fri, 01/30/2026 - 12:00am

The other day an incident that happened at the Douglas County Courthouse proves that what’s been going on in Minneapolis was never about illegal immigration.  It’s about fear, intimidation, attacking a political enemy, and a distraction from the Epstein Files.

Dear Sirs, Madam, and The Sound of _______.

Published by jason@omahadail... on Thu, 01/29/2026 - 12:00am

Dear Senator Ricketts, Senator Fischer, Governor Pillen, Representatives Bacon, Flood, and Smith, plus every Republican candidate reading this, have you hit rock bottom yet?  Are you sick and tired of being an enabler to this administration?

Are you so co-dependent to our president that you can continue to make excuses for him and by extension all your fellow Republicans about what they’re doing to this country?

Or are you just as drunk with power as Trump, Vance, Miller, Noem, Patel and the rest of them. Are you exactly like them?

What Auschwitz Taught Me About Memory And Responsibility Student’s View: If Remembering Becomes Optional, History Becomes Fragile. But If Remembrance Is Active, It Becomes A Responsibility.

Published by jason@omahadail... on Wed, 01/28/2026 - 12:00am

History depends on remembrance — not just remembering what happened but deciding what we are willing to confront and protect. When I was selected, along with seven other students from Success Academy high schools in New York City, to participate in a Holocaust Remembrance trip to Poland, I expected to learn history. What I didn’t expect was to leave questioning how remembrance actually works — and what it demands from us.

Bellevue Classics: Stella’s Bar and Grill

Published by jason@omahadail... on Tue, 01/27/2026 - 12:00am

No series on Bellevue, Nebraska’s classic restaurants could be written without including Stella’s Bar and Grill. Seriously, I think its required in the city code or something. Stella’s has been a Bellevue landmark since 1936. It’s a legend for locals and earned both regional and national recognition. But when I stopped in on a cold Friday at lunch, I got a different vantage. When I stepped inside, the place was packed.

Would Our Elected Officials Pass Muster?

Published by jason@omahadail... on Mon, 01/26/2026 - 12:00am

There is a proposal before the Unicameral that would have state senators take a civics test and have those scores posted.  The test would have no bearing on whether or not the senator could serve, but it would let the voters know whether or not their representative knew their stuff.
