UNL Students Explore Democracy On Campus, Join National Efforts

LINCOLN – On Sept. 15, hundreds of students across the University of Nebraska-Lincoln College of Journalism and Mass Communications participated in the national Democracy Day effort to raise awareness of threats facing American democracy.

Joining forces with over 350 news organizations, UNL student journalists published pro-democracy stories on the Nebraska News Service website.

OMAHA — Tanya Gifford of Lift Up Sarpy County was thrilled this summer to learn that her nonprofit was awarded $1 million to help ward off homelessness in a community still pained by the pandemic.

Lincoln Faith-Based Nonprofit Enforces Its Ministry Standards

LINCOLN — City Impact, a faith-based Lincoln youth nonprofit, has recently lost staff and volunteers upset over a set of ministry standards that states, in part, that any sexual relationship beyond sex in a heterosexual marriage “constitute sexual immorality.”

Study To Measure Health Benefits Of Girls Inc. Programs

Rebecca Slotkowski, a student in the MD/PhD program at the University of Nebraska Medical Center (UNMC), received National Institutes of Health funding for a two-year study that will measure the physical and cardiovascular health impact that Girls Inc. has on its young participants.

Two Nebraska Nonprofits Awarded $350K In PRIME Grants From SBA

OMAHA – The Center for Rural Affairs (CFRA) and the GROW Nebraska Foundation have been awarded a $150,000 and $200,000 Program for Investment in Micro-Entrepreneurs (PRIME) grant, respectively.
