‘Kids Can’ Makes $11 Million Move, But Concern Looms For Broader Statewide Child Care Needs

OMAHA — The kids are back.

A longtime vacant corner at 48th and Q Streets — once home to a public elementary school that closed 30 years ago — has a new tenant, with a familiar youthful energy.

Nonprofits that serve people of color or are led by nonwhite executive directors have a harder time getting the funding they need than other organizations, increasing their financial hardships.

Wellhead Protection Network Meeting to Highlight Creative Partnership

An upcoming event is providing a welcome focus on creative solutions, partnerships, and funding opportunities for securing the state’s drinking water quality. Water operators, city government elected officials or employees, representatives from Nebraska’s Natural Resources Districts, and any other interested community members are invited to attend a Wellhead Protection Network Meeting on Friday, March 31 at the office of the Upper Big Blue Natural Resources District in York.

Compassion In Action Helps Confined Nebraskans Gain Reentry

Compassion In Action has worked since 1994 to assist Nebraskans confined by the state prison system to successfully transition from being inside to back on the outside. It’s a faith-based organization that relies on mutual aid and community engagement for prevention and to ease confined people into reentry.

North Omaha Lawmakers Challenged About Process That Recommended $225 Million In Grants

OMAHA — A North Omaha community forum got testy at times Sunday night as many participants challenged the process that led to the slate of North and South Omaha groups in line to share $225 million in federal funds.

State Sens. Terrell McKinney and Justin Wayne, both of North Omaha, fielded questions from the estimated 75 or so people gathered at North High Magnet School.
