Sarpy County started limiting public access to its courthouse last Monday to employees and those with business with the courts.

District, county and juvenile courts in Sarpy County were open as of Monday, with restrictions to the courthouse reviewed daily.

Iowa Legislature Suspends Session After Des Moines Community Outbreak

Des Moines, Iowa – Iowa leaders said last Sunday they will halt the current legislative session for at least 30 days after learning the state now has community spread of COVID-19, the illness caused by the spreading coronavirus.

Iowa Courts Postpone Jury Trials Due to Virus Threats

The Iowa Judicial Branch is suspending jury trials because of the threat of the virus outbreak.

Appellate courts will not hear in-person arguments scheduled through May 15, although some cases may be judged without oral arguments or use teleconference or videoconference hearings.

Several Hotlines Available for Information About Coronavirus

Anyone seeking information on the coronavirus can find guidance from the CDC, WHO and other authorities widely available.

The Douglas County Health Department has a hotline at 402-444-3400 from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays. The United Way’s 2-1-1 service will take calls when the health department office is closed.

Buffett: Shareholders Can't Attend Annual Meeting in Omaha

Berkshire Hathaway chairman Warren Buffett told shareholders Friday that they won't be allowed to physically attend the company's May 2 annual meeting in Omaha because of the coronavirus threat.

Buffett said in a statement that he regrets having to take the step because the annual meeting has been a high point for decades for him and his business partner, Charlie Munger.

Barristers' Ball, OBA Ethics CLE Delayed Due to Virus Threat

The Nebraska Layers Foundation has postponed the Barrister’s Ball, and many in-person continuing legal education sessions are being postponed or canceled.

The Barrister’s Ball, which had been scheduled for April 18, will be held Saturday, Aug. 8.

Nebraska Chief Justice Issues COVID-19 Order

Nebraska courts were ordered to remain open until further notice despite the coronavirus outbreak.

Nebraska Supreme Court Chief Justice Michael G. Heavican issued an administrative order on Thursday that requires courts to stay open unless he declares a nonjudicial day in the state.
