The Nebraska Layers Foundation has postponed the Barrister’s Ball, and many in-person continuing legal education sessions are being postponed or canceled.

The Barrister’s Ball, which had been scheduled for April 18, will be held Saturday, Aug. 8.

The Nebraska State Bar Association’s Young Lawyers and Senior Lawyers sections’ Night at the Ballpark is cancelled for April 7, following a decision by the Big East conference to cancel spring and winter sports competitions.

The Volunteer Lawyers Project staffed self-help centers in Douglas, Lancaster, Hall, Buffalo, Madison, Scottsbluff and Kimball counties have been temporarily closed. Low-income pro se litigants who need help can ask civil legal questions via the Nebraska Free Legal Answers service.

Legal Aid of Nebraska has also temporarily closed its walk-in self-help Access to Justice centers in Omaha, Lincoln, Grand Island and Scottsbluff. Those seeking its services can call 1-877-250-2016 or go to lawhelpne.org.

The NSBA announced its CLE options will be limited to distance learning for the coming weeks. In-person CLEs have been canceled. Find a calendar of CLE webinars at nebarondemand.com.

Additionally, the Omaha Bar Association has postponed its 14th annual Seminar on Ethics and Professionals, held in conjunction with the Creighton University School of Law. The event, which was scheduled for March 27, will be rescheduled at a later date.

Dave Sommers, executive director of the OBA, said a discussion will be held next week about the status of the annual Law Day luncheon scheduled for April 30.
