The Metropolitan Community College at Do Space program at 7205 Dodge St. will host a free, public talk about renewable energy on July 11, from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m.
Courtney Kennedy, alternative energy program manager at the OPPD, and Darren Dageforde, executive director of utility and energy optimization at the University of Nebraska Medical Center, will discuss renewable energy and how Nebraskans can make a difference.

The Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services has opened a new facility in North Omaha to better serve residents of the area.

Lincoln – As many as 1 in 10 older Americans experience elder abuse, neglect or exploitation.
In recognition of World Elder Abuse Awareness Day, June 15, the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services aims to bring heightened awareness to the mistreatment of older adults.
“Elder abuse is a major issue that often goes unreported and unaddressed,” Dr. Matthew Van Patton, director of the Division of Medicaid and Long-Term Care, said in a release. “We all have a part to play in recognizing the signs of abuse and doing everything we can to prevent it.”
For several months, Sarpy County government officials and representatives from the Sarpy County have been meeting with potential partners to help the county establish a mental health crisis stabilization center.
At this time, Sarpy County is actively pursuing a partnership with Nebraska Medicine, according to a Wednesday news release.
“A partnership with Nebraska Medicine opens the possibility of locating directly on the Nebraska Medicine-Bellevue campus.” said Sarpy County Commissioner Jim Warren.

The 11th Annual Federal Legislative Summit will take place on Thursday, Aug. 8, at the Strategic Air & Space Museum in Ashland. The event will feature an update from Nebraska’s Congressional delegation on federal issues facing the state in Washington D.C.

The 10th annual Summer Family Picnic, held last Friday at the Omaha Children’s Museum, was put on by CASA for Douglas County, the Separate Juvenile Court of Douglas County and others who work alongside families that brought their children home after a separation.
Sandy Murnan spent the past 43 years working at the Creighton University School of Law and is retiring today as the school’s associate registrar.
Murnan put decades of work into admissions and records at the law school, making a career of supporting faculty, staff and students as they fostered generations of aspiring attorneys and judges.
Despite staying at the school for nearly her entire professional career, Murnan never set out to be a university administrator. All she wanted at first was a job in Nebraska’s version of the big city.
