CITY OF VALLEY
JANUARY 13, 2026
Robert B. Evnen, Secretary of State for the State of Nebraska, is calling for a special election to be held Tuesday, January 13, 2026, to fill the vacancies for two members of the Valley City Council, in Valley, Nebraska. The election is being called pursuant to Neb. Rev. Stat. § 32-569 (Reissue 2016), after receiving notice from the City of Valley that vacancies exist in one half or more of the members of the city council.
Registered voters of the City of Valley may file as candidates for member of the Valley City Council. Candidate filings may be received until 5:00 p.m. on Friday, December 12, 2025, in the office of the Douglas County Election Commissioner. Write-in affidavits may be received until 5:00 p.m. on Friday, January 2, 2026. The terms for both council member seats will end in December 2026.
The qualified candidates receiving the greatest number of votes, either as a candidate appearing on the ballot or as a write-in with a valid write-in affidavit on file, will be the elected members of the Valley City Council.
Brian W. Kruse, Douglas County Election Commissioner, acting on behalf of Robert B. Evnen, Secretary of State, will conduct this election.

JANUARY 13, 2026
Notice is hereby given that on Tuesday, the 13th day of January, 2026 in the City of Valley, Douglas County, Nebraska, a special election will be held. The election will be by mail; therefore, no polling places will be open for voting. Said election will be held for the registered voters of Douglas County who reside within the City of Valley who will vote to fill two City Council vacancies with terms ending in December 2026.
By-Mail Election
This election will be an election by mail. All registered voters currently residing within the City of Valley official boundaries will receive their ballot by mail, and therefore, no polling places will be open for voting. Ballots will be mailed by the Douglas County Election Commission between Monday, December 22, 2025, and Friday, January 2, 2026.
Voter Registration Deadlines
• The deadline to register to vote online, at an agency, with a deputy registrar, or by mail is Friday, December 26, 2025.
• The deadline for in-person registration at the Douglas County Election Commission is Friday, January 2, 2026 at 6:00 p.m.
Ballot Return Deadline
• All voted ballots must be received by the Douglas County Election Commission no later than 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 13, 2026.
• Ballots must be delivered or mailed to the Douglas County Election Commission at 12220 W Center Road, Omaha, Nebraska 68144 or placed in a Douglas County Election Commission official ballot drop box. Drop box locations available for this election are as follows:
