Several Programs Offer Help to Businesses Hurt by Virus

Lincoln – Officials are working to offer relief to businesses hard-hit by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Creighton Shuts Down Campus

Creighton University President the Rev. Daniel S. Hendrickson, announced that, due to the spread of the coronavirus, Creighton’s Omaha campus closed Tuesday to all students, faculty, staff and visitors, except for mission-critical employees and approved students.

 Creighton’s Omaha campus will remain closed until further notice.

State Only ‘in Second Inning’ Of COVID-19 Outbreak Fight

Lincoln – Health experts who are advising Nebraska Gov. Pete Ricketts warned that the state is only in “the second inning” of its struggle against the outbreak, and more deaths are expected.

Omaha Has 366 Ventilators

Dr. Adi Pour, the director of the Douglas County Health Department, said the local community has capacity available for a rise in COVID-19 cases.

As of Friday afternoon, Omaha had 632 hospital beds, with 53% of them open, and 366 ventilators, with three taken by COVID-19 patients and 89 by others. “We have quite a capacity of ventilators in this community,” Pour said.

Sheriff’s Office Asks Public to Use Nonemergency Number

Ten Workers at Grand Island Beef Plant Infected by Virus

Grand Island – Ten workers at a central Nebraska beef plant have tested positive for the new coronavirus as the number of confirmed cases continues to rise, public health officials said last Friday.

Clinic at UNO Collecting Swabs

SIRE Donates Hand Sanitizer

Council Bluffs – Southwest Iowa Renewable Energy in Council Bluffs partnered with Pottawattamie County Public Health to make hand sanitizer available to hospitals, first responders and city and county government offices.

NePA Offers Two Webex CLEs

As COVID19 continues to affect our community, the Nebraska Paralegal Association is offering its membership safe alternatives to continuing education in lieu of our monthly lunch meetings.

In support of those efforts, the District I and District II meetings will be offered at no charge via Webex for the month of April.

Telecom Companies Respond To COVID-19 by Waiving Fees

Lincoln – Nebraska Gov. Pete Ricketts recently thanked telecommunications companies for stepping up in response to COVID-19.

“Businesses across the country are stepping up to help fight the coronavirus pandemic,” he said.  “Thank you to the telecommunications companies that are joining this fight to help support our households, businesses, and community organizations during this time.”
