You can’t spell “pandemic” without “panic.”

But, despite the circumstances that brought the Nebraska Legislature back to Lincoln last week, the state’s 49 senators displayed no panic at the Capitol. Rather, they demonstrated admirable resolve without any of the partisan tensions in crafting an emergency response to the coronavirus.

U.N. Estimates Loss of 195M Jobs Across Globe

Geneva – The U.N.’s labor organization estimates the equivalent of 195 million full-time jobs could be lost in the second quarter alone from the COVID-19 outbreak, with businesses and plants shuttered worldwide.

Legal Aid of Nebraska, VLP Team Up to Offer Free Hotline During Virus Outbreak

A free COVID-19 Disaster Relief Hotline is available for Nebraskans affected by the coronavirus who need legal assistance.

Legal Aid of Nebraska set up the hotline with support from the Nebraska State Bar Association’s Volunteer Lawyers Project to make legal assistance available.

Halt on Corporate Travel Hits Omaha Business Hard

Omaha-based Travel and Transport was nearing a 75th birthday and coming off its best back-to-back years of bookings yet. Sales had soared to $3.3 billion, up from $1.9 billion five years earlier.

Its travel management operation – headquartered in a 15-story tower jutting above 72nd Street and Mercy Road – had grown to include 1,800 workers in seven countries beyond the United States.

Nebraska Now Under Federal Disaster Declaration

President Donald Trump has declared a disaster in Nebraska due to the coronavirus, allowing federal assistance to the state.

The declaration last Saturday names FEMA Administrator Pete Gaynor as the coordinator for federal assistance to Nebraska.

City Planning Department Announces Temporary Changes for Permits, Inspections Due to Outbreak

The Omaha Planning Department announced modifications to its normal business operations due to restricted access to the Omaha Douglas Civic Center.

The department has suspended all testing, in-person meetings and board meetings through April 19.

Federal Courthouse Clerk's Office Closes Counters to Public
