All Nebraska Counties Subject to Directed Health Measure Orders
All of Nebraska’s 93 counties are subject to enforceable restrictions on public gatherings.
The state directed health measures are ordered by the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services. Local public health departments, including those in Douglas, Sarpy, Cass and Lancaster counties, have implemented orders that are stricter – such as explicitly ordering beauty salons and tattoo parlors to be closed.
Nebraska Gov. Pete Ricketts said the orders would apply to the remaining counties last Friday after more cases of community acquired COVID-19 were confirmed.
“The next several weeks will be key to slowing the spread of the virus in Nebraska,” Ricketts said. “We are asking Nebraskans to further limit social interactions, work, go home, and shop once a week.”
Statewide, according to the directed health measures, public gatherings may not exceed 10 people.
The orders also prohibit elective medical and dental surgeries and procedures. Schools must operate without students until May 31. Bars and restaurants are restricted to only offering delivery, takeout and curbside service to customers.
Additionally, people are required to quarantine at home if they test positive for COVID-19, have a fever of 100.4 degrees or higher, have experienced a sudden onset of a cough or a shortness of breath, or reside with someone who has tested positive for COVID-19 or who has the above symptoms. People with seasonal allergies, COPD or other conditions with respiratory symptoms aren’t subject to the quarantine requirement, nor are those with an alternative non-COVID-19 diagnosis from a health care provider.
The state’s DHM orders do not apply to retail or grocery stores where people maintain 6 feet of distance from each other or day care centers at a school. The orders also detail other specific exemptions.
“These measures help protect each other and those who are more vulnerable to severe illness and death, and help hospitals and clinics from being overwhelmed so they can continue to provide care to families, friends and neighbors who need it,” Nebraska DHHS said in a news release Sunday.
The directed health measures last until April 30 for Douglas, Sarpy and Cass counties. Some remaining counties expire May 6, with the rest of the state expiring on May 11. All the orders are subject to renewal.
