The older man was at least being complicit. He let the kid go and took a seat on the curb – not because we told him to, but because he was clearly overheated and needed the break. “He was cutting tires!” the old man puffed. “I saw him cutting tires!” “I’m sorry,” said the officer nearest him. “You caught him slashing your tires?” “No – not mine,” the old man snapped. “I was sitting in traffic and saw him with a blade over in that parking lot there. And I saw him cutting the tires. I got out of my car and went and grabbed him.

“Hey look,” I said to Jadey as we waited in the Chipotle drive-thru. “You did awesome at Starbucks – you really helped that girl, but this is the kind of situation where things can get stupid and out of control quick. If you’re going to be with me – I need you to do exactly what I say. That might mean waiting in the car – even if it’s boring, ok?”
Jadey didn’t agree right away but also didn’t protest right away like she was prone to.
Before I could add on, the kid at the window leaned out and handed me our bag of food.

We hung around the Starbucks until local patrol cars showed up. One of them was a young cop I had helped with his application. A kid named Tyler – the nephew of a family friend.
“Hey, can I give you my statement later?” I asked Tyler. “I gotta get this one to school.”
In Jadey’s defense, she was being a rockstar. She hadn’t complained once and was actually doing an incredible job keeping the screaming drive-thru girl – several years older than her – calm and composed.
“Yeah, of course, Mr. Dayson,” Tyler said quickly.

The sun was shining in through the kitchen window. It looked beautiful outside, but I felt like crap. We were out of half and half, and my first cup of strong, black coffee was already working its way through my gut. But I had to get the girls fed and ready for school. I worked quickly to butter toast for one and cut up fruit for the other. My 13-year-old, Jadey, bounced in and grabbed the bowl of berries and cantaloupe just as I finished.

It’s been a studied phenomenon for some time that when “times are good”, new and novel media reign. A boom of original content fed a growing pop culture engine from the early 80’s into the 90’s. Economic hopes and an end to the Cold War, perhaps. Studios were taking big risks and making original blockbusters galore. The works of Lucas and Spielberg in that era alone are an inspiring collection. Not to mention the nearly constant stream of big, ridiculous action flicks like Rambo, Red Dawn, Big Trouble in Little China, The Terminator, Die Hard, Con Air, and all the ensuing franchises.

Over the last decade, 3D printing has consistently progressed its way from fringe curiosity to ubiquitous resource in multiple facets of modern life. Where once you might find one Comic Con vendor out of two hundred selling a handful of colorful, articulated dragon fidgets, now you can find a modest-sized printer in many homes and the applications and uses are only increasing with time. So, let’s talk about why that is as well as some exciting new developments in the community from across the military-industrial complex to right here in Bellevue, NE.

South Central Bellevue has never been in more need of spots to get good food. There’s no end in sight to the suburban sprawl down west Capehart, and the Waterpark is practically peaking over the southern horizon. The hungry hordes grow by the day! And today’s crowds aren’t just satisfied with the old standbys. Of course, the new McDonald’s is plenty busy, and Lil’ Burro and Filipino Fusion are tried and tested, but what if you’re looking for something new and different? Enter Gyro Kings.

When recording audio, ‘room tone’ is the captured silence at the beginning of the track that sets the datum of noise against which the rest of the sound can be measured. It’s supposed to be a nice and quiet reference point. If this concept were instead used for the psychological thriller ‘Backrooms’ to characterize its opening thematic and environmental mood, the room tone would be a blood-curdling, blaring scream.

Jenna blew out stunted breaths before she even opened her eyes. The stress of the week had been too much to bear, and she had given in to her friends’ demands to go out and drink herself to oblivion. Mission accomplished it would seem. Her head throbbed from every possible angle, and her mouth was bone dry from sleeping with it rather agape. Ironic, since she seemed to have formed a large pool of drool on her left shoulder. How had she even gotten home? She vaguely remembered protesting her friend Kara getting another round of shots. Had she then cheered later for the next round?
