What Is Ethical Animal Research? A Scientist And Veterinarian Explain

A proposed measure in Switzerland would have made that country the first to ban medical and scientific experimentation on animals. It failed to pass in February 2022, with only 21% of voters in favor. Yet globally, including in the United States, there is concern about whether animal research is ethical.

Evictions And Trusts

Not long ago, I did a short series on trusts being used by real estate investors. A memo came across my desk recently from a highly-respected eviction attorney in Cleveland, Ohio. The Cleveland Municipal Housing Court is now doing something that will probably spread to other states and cities. They are now requiring additional documentation when the owner of the property is a trust and the trustee is doing the eviction. Let me remind you of a couple of things.

FTX, an exchange for trading cryptocurrencies, quickly became bankrupt and defunct in November 2022. Its founder, Sam Bankman-Fried, is broke, and the 30-year-old former billionaire could be in serious legal trouble for his alleged financial improprieties. The Conversation asked Brian Mittendorf, an accounting scholar at The Ohio State University, to explain the significance of FTX’s implosion for philanthropy and the nonprofits Bankman-Fried supported.

Six descendants of Serranus Clinton Hastings, California’s first chief justice, and a group that says it represents alumni are suing the state of California over its decision to rename a nearly 150-year-old law school. The University of California, Hastings College of the Law, will become UC College of the Law, San Francisco, in 2023, in accordance with a law state legislators passed and Gov. Gavin Newsom signed on Sept. 23, 2022.
