Simmering tension in American politics came to a head two years ago, when a mob of Trump supporters stormed the U.S. Capitol to try to overthrow the results of the 2020 presidential election. The failed insurrection on Jan. 6, 2021, resulted in several deaths and injuries to almost 150 police officers.

One of Elon Musk’s stated reasons for purchasing Twitter was to use the social media platform to defend the right to free speech. The ability to defend that right, or to abuse it, lies in a specific piece of legislation passed in 1996, at the pre-dawn of the modern age of social media.

I noticed an upcoming auction on Rockingwell Boulevard, which is a neighborhood I am pretty familiar with. A credit card company, whom had been awarded a judgment for an unpaid balance, had initiated foreclosure on a property in an attempt to recover their money owed. This particular property consisted of two parcels, one with a house and one with empty land. As the owner’s name was on both, the credit card judgment stuck to both parcels. At first glance there was a large bank mortgage that ate up all the equity.

Global warming has increased the number of extreme weather events around the world by 400% since the 1980s. Countries know how to stop the damage from worsening: stop burning fossil fuels and shift to renewable energy, electrify transportation and industry, and reduce the carbon intensity of agriculture.
But none of this is happening fast enough to avoid warming on a catastrophic scale.

New Year’s resolutions are all about habits. Breaking some bad ones (smoking, drinking excessively, binging on fast food) and starting new ones (working out, eating more Brussels sprouts).
Businesses, like individuals, develop bad habits over time that need correction, while success in business over the long run usually means adopting good management habits and sticking with them year after year.

Demographically, the average age of a Nebraska lawmaker is 57. The average age of all Nebraskans is 36.

At least a trillion insects are killed annually for food and animal feed. Routine slaughter methods include extreme heat and cold, often preceded by starvation. By comparison, “only” around 79 billion mammals and bird livestock are slaughtered every year.

There are close to 80,000 unfilled jobs in Nebraska.
The birth rate in the state is continuing to decline as are the number of students in elementary and high schools and enrolled in the state’s colleges and universities, demographic changes that will ensure a continuing employment crisis well into the future.

Recently I heard about a local manufacturing company that’s fallen on hard times. Their once-popular product line is no longer in retail stores, the owners can’t stand each other and the CEO has tons of credit card debt that sucks up all of the company’s free cash.
