Council Bluffs Chamber President Stepping Down

Council Bluffs Area Chamber of Commerce President and CEO Dan Koenig submitted his resignation Friday effective July 5.

The chamber board will begin to discuss Koenig’s replacement im­mediately, according to a news re­lease. The chamber has more than 800 dues-paying members. 

“I’ve been eyeing a new op­portunity and the timing is right,” Koenig said in a release. “There are a lot of good things happening in Council Bluffs, and I tried my best to build upon those successes.”

Nebraska Governor Asks For Flood Hero Nominations

Nebraska Gov. Pete Ricketts and First Lady Susanne Shore launched an initiative to recognize Nebraska’s flood heroes for their extraordinary acts of bravery in service of their communities. 

As the state prepares to honor Nebraskans for their remarkable service, they invite Nebraskans to submit nominations online at nebraskaimpact.com/flood-heroes.

Jerram Elected President of Omaha City Council

The Omaha City Council made its vice president its new president in a vote last week.

Chris Jerram assumed the role of council president from Ben Gray at the June 4 meet­ing. 

Jerram was elected presi­dent on a 5-2 vote, with two members backing Gray in a secret ballot. 

“Mr. President, the hot seat is yours,” Gray said after the vote.

“I look forward to the next two years,” Jerram said after assuming the president’s position.

Jerram also thanked Gray for the work he did behind the scenes to help fellow council members.

District Judge Applicants Sought for 6th Judicial District Bench

The Judicial Nominating Commission for District Judge in the 6th Judicial District – consisting of Burt, Cedar, Dakota, Dixon, Dodge, Thurston and Washington counties – will hold a public hearing in the dis­trict courtroom of the Dakota County Courthouse, 1601 Broadway St., in Dakota City, beginning at 10 a.m., July 9, 2019.

City, County Establish Flood Incident Command Center

The City of Omaha Public Works Department, Omaha Fire Department and Douglas County Emergency Management have established an incident command center as a precaution because of the risk of flooding associated with rains and the Missouri River.

The Missouri River reached an elevation just below moder­ate flood stage last week and is expected to remain at or above the minor flood stage for at least two weeks, and likely much longer.

Omaha Marks D-Day With Seventh Sister City

Omaha has entered into a Sister City relationship with a region along the Normandy Coast of France that includes the historic Omaha Beach.

Omaha Mayor Jean Stothert and the Omaha Sister Cities Association announced the new relationship with Isigny-Omaha Intercom, a region of 59 townships in northern France, on the 75th anniversary of the D-Day invasion in the Second World War.

Sarpy County Decides to Find New Site for Crisis Center

When the Sarpy County Board of Commissioners announced in February that they were purchas­ing land to build a mental health crisis stabilization center, it started a countywide conversation about mental health and the lack of treat­ment options in the area.

The county received hundreds of calls, emails and messages of support as well as first-hand ac­counts from individuals and fami­lies struggling with mental health issues, according to a Sarpy County news release last Thursday.

Toolkit Offers Information for Limited Scope Representation

The Self-Represented Litigation Committee of the Nebraska Supreme Court’s Access to Justice Commission announced a new Nebraska Limited Scope Representation Toolkit. 

The purpose of the toolkit is to assist attorneys who are licensed in Nebraska and seeking to offer limited scope representation as one of their service offerings to potential clients who have civil matters in Nebraska trial courts.
