The Nebraska State Library is moving its services to the University of Nebraska-Lincoln for the duration of a heating and air conditioning renovation project.

Library staff will move to the Schmid Law Library on UNL’s East Campus for the second phase of the State Capitol HVAC project, according to a news release.

The Marvin & Virginia Schmid Law Library has a comprehensive legal collection with texts on every major topic of law, including federal, state and case law.

The UNL collection includes state statues, session laws, legislative bills, Nebraska Reports and Appellate Reports, Nebraska Court Rules, Nebraska Jury Instructions, Nebraska Supreme Court Briefs, and CLE materials.

“As always, we will do our best to find what you are looking for, even if that means borrowing from another institution,” the Nebraska State Library said in a statement Tuesday. “Our goal is to continue to provide you access to all the same resources that are currently available.”

The State Library’s last day at the Capitol will be Monday, Sept. 30. Its hours at the Schmid Law Library will remain 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., and two designating parking spaces will be available in the lot directly south of McCollum Hall. The parking spots will be labeled “Supreme Court Library,” and a sign-in sheet will be available inside to validate parking.

Regular reference services will be offered in person as well as by phone and email. The State Library office will be in the back of the university library, but inquiries can be made at either the reference or circulation desks.

The State Library collection will not be moved, so circulation will be determined on an as-needed basis for texts in the UNL collection. The State Library asks for research to be done at the Schmid Law Library if possible, and scanners are available for free along with copying machines.

Self-help kiosks with access to Westlaw, Hein Online and Justice will be available at the library.

This phase of the HVAC renovation project is expected to last between 18 and 24 months.
