Series Of Events Planned May 19-21 To Commemorate Birthday Of Malcolm X

OMAHA — A performance of the play, “The Meeting,” and a panel discussion on re-entry efforts for inmates leaving prison are planned as part of an annual commemoration of the birthday of Malcolm X.
The events will be held on May 19-21 at the Malcolm X Birthplace at 3448 Evans St., in Omaha.
“Celebrating the Champions of Tomorrow” is the theme for this year’s events, which recognizes the collection of social justice efforts in North Omaha, said JoAnna LeFlore-Ejike, executive director of the Malcolm X Memorial Foundation.
The events:
May 19, at 11 a.m., a luncheon featuring a panel discussion on the impact the 1969 shooting of 14-year-old Vivian Strong by a white police officer had on the North Omaha community. Cost is $25.
May 20, 6-8 p.m., a dramatic reading of the play, “The Meeting,” from playwright Jeff Stetson. Event is free of charge.
May 21, 2-4 p.m., a panel discussion on “Bring ‘Em Home” prison re-entry efforts.
