The Omaha Bar Association will hold its 49th Annual Fall Kickoff on Thursday, Sept. 5.

The barbecue offers networking and drinks to wrap up the summer break in the OBA social calendar.

J. Terry Macnamara, an attorney at McGrath | North, said it is an opportunity build relationships with other Omaha Bar Association attorneys so they know other professionals in the community.

“It’s really a chance to get back together,” he said. “I love it because I get to see lawyers that I don’t ordinarily see during the day, the week or the month – maybe old classmates, people I have worked with in the past.”

Macnamara said the annual tradition began to showcase First National Bank’s downtown tower, but it’s grown into a tradition.

“I probably was responsible for the very first Fall Kickoff at First National Bank at 17th and Dodge when it was a brand-new building and we were trying to show it off,” Macnamara said.

The idea caught on from those days when Macnamara worked at First National’s trust department.

“It’s certainly been one of the highlights of the OBA year,” Macnamara said. “It’s always been a fun thing. The bank has a cocktail party for a while before dinner, and we have a dinner that’s usually quite wonderful.”

Registration is due by Aug. 31 for the members-only event. The cost is $20 for OBA members and OBA law student members.

The event is sponsored by First National Bank of Omaha and will be held at the First National Business Park at 14010 FNB Parkway.

A one-hour reception begins at 5:30 p.m., and dinner is scheduled from 6:30 to 8 p.m.
