Officials with the Papio-Missouri Natural Resources District have decided to keep open the lakes, trails and parking lots at Prairie View and Chalco Hills recreation areas.

Playgrounds, athletic fields and restrooms at the Papio NRD recreational areas are closed.

River access sites are also closed along the Elkhorn and Platte rivers. They were shut because the access sites are small and contain playgrounds and picnic areas, leaving no safe room for vehicles or people who wish only to access the river.

“If Sarpy County issues a health directive to close parks then the Papio NRD will do so,” said John Winkler, general manager of the Papio NRD. “As long as everyone practices social distancing and follows all issued health directives, the Papio NRD will keep Prairie View Recreation Area and Chalco Hills Recreation Area open.”
