Owe Child Support? COVID-19 Rebate Check May Be Reduced
Washington – The U.S. government plans to offer $1,200 rebates to taxpayers to provide financial assistance during the pandemic.
Sen. Charles Grasley, R-Iowa, said in a post on Medium that one administrative offset will remain in effect for the COVID-12 rebate: overdue child support payments.
Payments may be reduced for those whose overdue payments were reported to the U.S. Treasury, Grassley wrote in the blog post.
The federal government won’t reduce the payments for people with past tax debts or who are behind on other payments to the federal or state governments, including student loan payments.
