Nearly 500 IRS Cases Settled Through Bacon Office

Office Of Rep. Don Bacon

Omaha, Neb. – Rep. Don Bacon (NE-02) announced that the District Office has assisted nearly 500 individuals and individuals with small businesses in tracking down delayed tax returns with the IRS. The amount recovered is well over $6 million.

Constituents who reached out to the office had been waiting for their returns for anywhere from one to three years, and while the majority of the cases involved a mistake made by the filer, all of the cases had the same common complaint – the filer could not get a hold of anyone at the IRS office to find out why the return was delayed.

“These cases all had the same thing in common- there is no one in the IRS offices to answer the phone and assist these individuals in finding out why their tax return is delayed,” said Bacon. “We were able to start a case, call the IRS, and get some answers for the taxpayer.”

The amount per individual ranged from a return of a few hundred dollars to over $60,000 for one couple.

“Instead of spending money to hire 87,000 more agents, democrats should have designated that funding for customer service agents so taxpayers could get the assistance they need,” said Bacon. “But Speaker Pelosi and every single House Democrat voted against two amendments to the Inflation Reduction Act that would have ensured taxpayers earning less than $400,000 would be exempt from new audits.”

“I’m just glad we were able to assist Nebraskans and small businesses in finding some resolution to the fact that they could not get in touch with a single person at the IRS,” Bacon added. “Simply put, it’s unacceptable that our constituents cannot get the IRS to pick up the phone.”
