MCC, No More Empty Pots Partner to Offer Workforce Training In Culinary Arts

Published by admin on Tue, 05/28/2019 - 12:00am

Metropolitan Community College is teaming up with the nonprofit No More Empty Pots to provide workforce training opportunities to individuals interested in culinary careers.

The 15-week, noncredit Culinary Workforce Training Program from No More Empty Pots will be taught by MCC culinary instructors and will provide skills training, work experience, career development and job support to prepare participants for entry-level jobs in the food and beverage industry, according to MCC.

“We believe that everyone deserves access to an enriched education,” said Nancy Williams, No More Empty Pots president and CEO. “This program prepares individuals to enter the workplace as a well-rounded employee. Students will sharpen workforce and culinary skills, develop a mindfulness practice and learn to use their strengths to build more effective teams.”

Victoria Novak, MCC’s director of Workforce & IT Innovation-Corporate Training, said the partnership demonstrates the college’s passion for collaborating to transform workforce training and change lives in the community.

“Food service is one of the most in-demand career fields with the highest need for talented professionals,” Novak said. “Even though the initial aim of the training is to provide skills for entry level positions in the food industry, the larger goal is to expose the students to MCC’s Culinary Arts programs so that they can pursue degree programs to further advance their skills.”

Program participants may be eligible for the Community College Gap Assistance Program. Applications are currently being accepted until June 7 for cohort eight, which begins in July.
