Lawyers Without Borders, OBA to Hold CLE Event

Lawyers Without Borders will hold a continuing legal education event on Wednesday to discuss its efforts in the name of and done by members of the legal profession.
In an email to Omaha Bar Association members, Executive Director Dave Sommers shared a statement from the late Judge Laurie Smith Camp’s TEDx Talk “Wolves and Brownies” she gave at Creighton University in 2013.
“Service to others is the pinnacle of ethics. People who choose careers involving an element of service should be honored and admired,” Smith Camp said.
Sommers said that members of the Omaha legal community can learn about how service to others is being performed worldwide to promote the rule of law.
The OBA is sponsoring the 1-hour CLE event with the help of Tom Dahlk of Kutak Rock. Both in-person and Zoom options are available for participants.
Lawyers Without Borders Executive Director will present the CLE at 4 p.m. Wednesday, followed by a reception from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Those who are interested in LWOB but can’t attend the CLE may attend the reception.
Both events will be held at the Field Club of Omaha, 3615 Woolworth Ave. Advanced registration is requested due to capacity limits.
“We’re delighted to have the leader of this international legal organization in Omaha, and looking forward to learning about the valuable work they do around the world,” Sommers said in the email Tuesday. “While many times overlooked, it is always worthwhile to shine a light on inspiring stories of good works being done by attorneys.”
LWOB provides trial advocacy training programs for lawyers, judges, magistrates, prosecutors, public defenders and law enforcement. It also cultivates human rights in developing sectors, conducts neutral observations, works to build capacity and designs educational materials.
