Douglas County Accepting Homestead Exemption Applications
Eligible property owners in Douglas County have until June 30 to apply for the 2021 Homestead Exemption Program, which provides tax relief to seniors and qualified disabled individuals.
The program exempts all or a portion of the taxable value of a residence for those who qualify.
To qualify, applicants must have been 65 or older at the beginning of the year or have a physical or developmental disability. Disabled veterans and spouses of deceased disabled veterans are also eligible.
Due to the coronavirus pandemic, the Assessor/Register of Deeds office remains closed to walk-in visitors. Those who have previously received homestead assistance should receive a 2021 application in the mail. New applicants are asked to visit dcassessor.org to print out an application.
Applications can also be found in the lobby outside the Assessor/Register of Deeds office and you can request to receive one in the mail by calling 402-444-7060 and selecting option 2.
Assistance is also available by phone through Volunteers Assisting Seniors at 402-444-6617.
