I. Call Hearing to Order- Board President 

Allyson Slobotski called the meeting to order at 6:02 p.m., noting the Open Meetings Act, a copy of which was located on the south wall of the Board Room, governed the meeting.

 

II. Review of the amount of money 

collected from students pursuant to, and the use of waivers provided in, the student fee policies of the District for the 2023-2024 school year. The Bennington Public Schools’ Student Fee Fund had a beginning balance of $24,910.22. The Student Fee Fund collected $7,938.26 in revenue and expended $7,887.26 in expenditures leaving a current balance of $24,961.22.

 

III. Hold Public Hearing to discuss, 

consider, and receive input on the Student Fee Policy- The public was given the opportunity to present information and opinions on the Student Fee Policy. No members of the public were present to speak.

 

IV. Hold Public Hearing to discuss, 

consider, and receive input on the Parental Involvement Policy- The public was given the opportunity to present information and opinions on the Parental Involvement Policy. No members of the public were present to speak.

 

V. Hold Public Hearing to discuss, consider,

and receive input on the Bullying Policy- The public will be given the opportunity to present information and opinions on the Bullying Policy. No members of the public were present to speak.

 

VI. Adjournment- Motion to adjourn the

Hearing at 6:06 p.m. made by Allyson Slobotski.  All in favor.

July 2023 Personnel Notes:  Certificated 

Staff Hire: Crystal King – elementary teacher at Anchor Pointe, Traci Duckworth – special education teacher at Anchor Pointe, Megan O’Dell – high school science teacher.  Support Staff Hire: Susan Turnovsky - substitute cook, Dawn Theis - administrative assistant for curriculum and instruction, Rodney Amos – 4-hour bus route driver, Jeff Hansen- 4-hour bus route driver.  Certificated Staff Resignations: Karissa Cox has submitted her resignation as of June 29, 2023.  Classified Staff Resignations: Amy Cheek- administrative assistant at Bennington South Middle School, Terri Wasmund- paraprofessional at Anchor Pointe.

 

IV. Items Removed From the Consent

V. Reports- Administrative Reports- Elementary,

Middle, High School, Student Services and Curriculum reports were provided to the Board.  Dr. Aaron Plas presented the Superintendent report to the Board.  Building and Finance and Policy Committee shared their reports.  Coordinator Report- None.  Spotlight Report- None.  Lobbyist Report- None.

 

VI. Unfinished Business

VI.A. Discuss, Consider, and Take

Action on Summer Maintenance/Transportation Purchases- The Building/Finance Committee met on June 28th to discuss the summer maintenance proposals and repair projects. There was a discussion on the potential needs and repairs at each of the buildings.

on Elementary, Middle School, and High School Handbooks- These handbooks have now been presented twice, The Administration recommends approval. After approval, they will be finalized and provided to parents/students during registration in August.

Reading to Revise Policies- 502.02-Non-Resident Students/Option Enrollment, 504.11 Weapons, 605.07 Part-Time Enrollment, 611.07 Graduation Requirements, 605.03 Program for High Ability Learners, and 605.03R1 Program for High Ability Learners Procedures.  First reading only, no action was taken.

 

VII.B. Discuss and Consider First 

Reading to Add Policies- 506.02 Student Organizations, 508.18 Administration of Naloxone (Narcan), 508.19 Behavior Point of Contact, and 801.01R2 Foster Care Transportation Plan.  First reading only, no action was taken.

 

VII.C. Discuss, Consider First Reading to 

Add/Revise Policies for Sections 100 and 200- The Policy Committee recommended changes to policies in Sections 100 and 200.  First reading only, no action was taken.

 

VII.D. Discuss, Consider, and Take Action 

on Revision to the 2023-24 School Calendar- The Administration would like to change April 17, 2024, to a full day of school and change April 9, 2024, to an early dismissal due to ACT testing and an early dismissal on April 16, 2024, due to the track invitational.
