ACLU of Nebraska has announced that Executive Director Danielle Conrad is resigning from her position in the organization in the spring.

Conrad is stepping down to run for state legislature in Lincoln’s District 46, a seat she previously held from 2006 to 2015, when she was term-limited out of office.

Under Conrad’s leadership, ACLU of Nebraska successfully advocated for LGBTQ equality, reproductive rights and open government, according to the news release. She also led a voter engagement campaign that sent vote-by-mail applications to voters in Omaha and Lincoln.

“We will miss Danielle dearly and she has our deepest gratitude for everything she has poured into this organization and our work advancing and protecting the rights of all Nebraskans,” ACLU of Nebraska Board President Ashlei Spivey said in the news release. “Danielle’s leadership has built a foundation that will allow us to grow our impact to new heights in the years to come.”

The ACLU of Nebraska’s board will launch a search for its next executive director later this spring. An acting executive director will be named in the near future.

Conrad will face Lincoln City Councilman James Michael Bowers and real estate agent James Herrold in her bid to return to the Legislature.
