A 22-year-old inmate died last weekend after being found in medical distress in his cell at Douglas County Corrections.
Jesus Munoz received emergency medical care from Department of Corrections staff and later by responding Omaha Fire Department personnel, according to Douglas County Department of Corrections Director Mike Myers.
He was found about 1:30 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 25, and died shortly before 2 a.m., Myers said in a statement to news media.
“We offer our heartfelt condolences to Jesus’ family and loved ones,” he said. “Officials with the Douglas County Department of Corrections will have no further comment at this time pending the resolution of a grand jury investigation as required by state law.”
Munoz was serving 180 days in jail after being extradited from California for violation of probation on a felony gun charge. He had been in Douglas County Corrections custody since Oct. 10.
