Washington – No one knows how long it will last or how much it will hurt. But the U.S. economy is either sliding into a recession for the first time since 2009 or is already in one – a sudden victim of the coronavirus outbreak.

New York – The U.S. stock market plunged 12% Monday for its worst day in more than three decades as voices from Wall Street to the White House said the coronavirus is likely dragging the economy into a recession.

Nebraska businesses are being asked to do their part to halt the spread of the virus – including keeping sick workers at home.
“This is a communitywide response, so we want businesses to be prepared to be engaged as well,” Gov. Pete Ricketts said at a news conference last Friday.

Berkshire Hathaway chairman Warren Buffett told shareholders Friday that they won't be allowed to physically attend the company's May 2 annual meeting in Omaha because of the coronavirus threat.
Buffett said in a statement that he regrets having to take the step because the annual meeting has been a high point for decades for him and his business partner, Charlie Munger.

Investor Warren Buffett says he plans to decide whether to scale back his company’s annual meeting, which typically attracts roughly 40,000 people, around April 1.
Berkshire Hathaway is still planning to hold its annual meeting on May 2, but the ongoing coronavirus outbreak may force the company to make changes to the event.

New York – Rachel Sklar planned to go to the big South by Southwest film, media and music gathering in Austin, Texas, this month, but changed her mind as cases of coronavirus started appearing in the U.S. She was scheduled to speak at the annual event and expected to recruit new members for her businesswomen’s organization, TheLi.st.
