Summer Tourists Flock To Boardwalks And Piers While Sticking To Their Budgets

NEW YORK (AP) — Small businesses along popular vacation destinations like boardwalks and piers in the U.S. say the number of tourists flocking to the waterfront is back to normal, meaning pre-2020 levels. But while the affluent are spending freely, lower-income vacationers are sticking to carefully planned-out budgets.

Omaha Economist’s Survey Of Bank Executives Shows ‘Rural Mainstreet’ Economy Still Stumbling

OMAHA — For the 12th consecutive month, a Creighton University-led survey of regional bankers reported a below growth neutral reading for the economy on “rural mainstreet.”

Creighton University since 2006 has released its monthly Rural Mainstreet Index, which is based on a survey of bank chief executives in 10 states including Nebraska, targeting about 200 rural communities with an average population of 1,300.

CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. (AP) — NASA is wrestling over how and when to bring two astronauts back from the International Space Station, after repeatedly delaying their return aboard Boeing's troubled capsule.

Do they take a chance and send them home soon in Boeing's Starliner? Or wait and bring them back next year with SpaceX?

For the past four years, inflation has rattled local small businesses across the country. The inflation rate  peaked in 2022, but of course the cost of goods never went back down.

In fact, the prices just kept rising, just not at the same clip they had been rising at the peak.

In the face of shrinking populations, many of the world’s major economies are trying to engineer higher birth rates.

Policymakers from South Korea, Japan and Italy, for example, have all adopted so-called “pronatalist” measures in the belief that doing so will defuse a demographic time bomb. These range from tax breaks and housing benefits for couples who have children to subsidies for fertility treatments.

WAYNE, Mich. (AP) — Vice President Kamala Harris and her running mate, Minnesota Gov.
