Trump Looks To Veterans To Fill Trucking Jobs After Booting Immigrants From Industry

Published by maggie@omahadai... on Tue, 08/04/2026 - 12:00am

WASHINGTON — President Donald Trump announced an initiative Thursday for veterans to quickly obtain commercial driver’s licenses, as the administration attempts to fill vacancies in the industry after pausing license renewals for foreign-born truck drivers.

“The radical left wants more jobs for illegal aliens and more migrants (in) 18-wheelers, and (the) Trump administration wants safer roads and more jobs for the American veteran,” Trump said.

US Bans Foreign-Made Humanoid Robots, Targeting China Over National Security

Published by maggie@omahadai... on Tue, 08/04/2026 - 12:00am

HONG KONG (AP) — The U.S. Federal Communications Commission is banning imports of new foreign-made humanoid robots and power inverters, citing national security risks, in a move that targets China. Beijing quickly accused the U.S. of protectionism.

The measures are likely to test relations with Beijing ahead of a planned U.S. visit by Chinese leader Xi Jinping to meet with U.S. President Donald Trump in September. China dominates the global market for humanoid robots with an estimated market share of roughly 85%.

What This Western Pennsylvania ’90s Pizza Hut Reveals About Nostalgia

Published by maggie@omahadai... on Tue, 08/04/2026 - 12:00am

A Pizza Hut in southwest Pennsylvania was recently highlighted for preserving its retro 1990s appearance, even as hundreds of other locations have closed across the United States.

For locals and nostalgic onlookers, this specific restaurant in Irwin, Pennsylvania – whose faded outdoor murals feature the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and New Kids on the Block – offers more than just a place to grab a stuffed-crust pizza. It represents a powerful window into how human beings interact with the past.

Cyclosporiasis Outbreak Surges To Over 4,173 Confirmed Cases

Published by maggie@omahadai... on Tue, 07/28/2026 - 12:00am

The number of cases of cyclosporiasis — a parasitic infection linked to contaminated water or food that causes severe intestinal issues — has more than doubled to over 4,173 cases across 41 states this week, up from the 1,645 confirmed cases in 34 states reported last week by the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Cyclosporiasis causes symptoms that include watery or “explosive” diarrhea, nausea and stomach cramps. The surge in cases had made 2026 the worst year for the infection on record.

An Odyssey Of Modernity: A Review

Published by maggie@omahadai... on Tue, 07/28/2026 - 12:00am

Prior to beginning this review and essay, you, Dear Reader, should be forewarned of strong spoilers to director Christopher Nolan’s recent and somewhat controversial film, “The Odyssey.” I am a story and movie enthusiast myself, and as such, oftentimes I like to experience things before anyone tells me about them.

When Starbucks Korea promoted its series of reusable tumblers called “tanks” with a “Tank Day” campaign on May 18, 2026, it probably seemed like a fun marketing idea.

Instead, it spiraled into a public relations crisis.

The Ukrainian attacks on the sprawling Russian warehouses produced stark images, with massive pillars of black smoke rising above fires that raged at facilities of Wildberries, the country’s biggest online retailer and its equivalent of Amazon.

Kyiv’s drones first hit the sites over the weekend, and then struck five more Wildberries warehouses during the week, including one in Crimea, which Russia illegally annexed from Ukraine in 2014. In all, nine people were killed, and scores more injured.

There’s A Business Case For Companies To Embrace Sustainability – If It’s Pitched The Right Way

Published by maggie@omahadai... on Tue, 07/28/2026 - 12:00am

Sustainable business practices are often seen as a luxury that only rich countries can afford. And these days, some of the biggest economies, including the U.S., are backtracking on those commitments.

But what if businesses had an incentive to adopt practices that help the environment because it made sense for the bottom line?

Sometimes people come up with clever ideas or business ideas that will make them a proverbial ton of money, ideas that they believe will revolutionize the world. I had such an idea: after reviewing a handful of restaurants in the metro area myself, I thought to myself,

“Man, wouldn’t it be great to have children review local ice-cream stores?” That way, parents would know just where their kids like to go! And, if nothing else, I am sure the children will say cute, adorable things and it will make a grand article for a hot midwestern summer.”

If you or someone you know has a baby or a child under 18, you’re likely wondering if they should get a “Trump Account.”

The U.S. government started giving babies born during President Donald Trump’s second term a US$1,000 gift on July 4, 2026. This money goes into the accounts, which are named after the president. To get the free money, the babies’ parents or guardians just have to submit the required paperwork.
