LINCOLN — A new study ranked Nebraska among the top 10 states in the nation for risky housing conditions related to a heavy influence of corporate investors.

The Private Equity Stakeholder Project, a nonprofit watchdog, released its first state-by-state “risk index” aimed at informing policymakers about problems that can arise from imbalanced investment by big private equity groups.

OMAHA — Gov. Jim Pillen joined leaders from the Omaha, Bennington, Elkhorn and Waterloo areas in thanking Nebraskans for listening to weather forecasts that warned them to take shelter during Friday’s storms.

“It is an extraordinary miracle that we’ve had this kind of a cell come through, and no categories (of serious injuries), and no loss of life,” he said.

LINCOLN — A $62 million federal grant awarded Monday to a Nebraska nonprofit is expected to launch a new era of solar energy use across the state, making it more accessible and affordable to a wider audience.

The “Solar for All” grant, on a practical level, is to install power systems for more than 9,000 historically disadvantaged Nebraska households that stand to save at least 20% in monthly utilities costs.
