Lincoln – Nebraska voters will likely get to weigh in on measures to legalize medical marijuana and casino gambling after advocates for both causes announced last week that they have enough signatures to put them on the November ballot.

Coalition Delivers Nearly 50,000 Signatures for Medical Cannabis Petition

A petition effort asking voters to legalize medical cannabis is continuing despite the obstacles of the coronavirus pandemic.

ADOPT, a coalition of Nebraskans who support medical cannabis access, recently delivered nearly 50,000 signatures to Nebraskans for Medical Marijuana, a political committee supporting a 2020 constitutional ballot measure to allow medical cannabis.

County Board Race Recount Confirmed Result; State Board Canvasses Primary

The 2020 primary is officially over after the Board of State Canvassers reviewed and approved the results of the statewide primary and a recount confirmed the results of a tight race for the Douglas County Board of Commissioners.

Pottawattamie County Voters Pick Brown to Become Sheriff

A three-way race to replace Jeff Danker as Pottawattamie County sheriff ended with Andy Brown on top after Tuesday’s polling.

Pottawattamie County Republican voters selected Brown with about 44% of the vote over Rob Ambrose, who earned 33%, and Danielle Bentzinger, who finished with 22%.

Iowa Voters Oust King After Years of Insensitive Remarks

Des Moines – Republicans in northwest Iowa ousted Rep. Steve King in Tuesday's primary, deciding they've had enough of the conservative lightning rod known for making incendiary comments about immigrants and white supremacy throughout his nearly two decades in Congress.

Former State Senator, Democratic Candidate Endorses Bacon

Republican U.S. Rep. Don Bacon scored a surprise endorsement last Thursday from former Nebraska state Sen. Bob Krist, who was the 2018 Democratic nominee for governor.

The announcement comes days after Kara Eastman won the Democratic primary to challenge Bacon in Nebraska’s 2nd Congressional District.

Nebraska Primary Goes Ahead Today Despite Coronavirus

Nebraska will hold a primary election statewide today despite the risks associated with the novel coronavirus, although a record number of voters opted to skip the polls today and vote by mail.

Polls will be open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Central today. Early ballots must be received by the close of polling. Outstanding ballots should be placed in a drop box, not taken to a polling site.

Three Democratic Candidates Vying to Challenge Bacon

Election Officials Asking Attorneys, CPAs to Work Polls

The Nebraska State Bar Association, Nebraska Board of Public Accountancy and Nebraska Society of Certified Public Accountants Society have partnered with the Nebraska Secretary of State’s Office to ensure a sufficient number of poll workers are available for the May 12 primary election.
