The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office held an open house event with trick-or-treating last Saturday at its main office near 156th Street and West Maple Road.
Sheriff’s Office staff offered tours of the headquarters facility at 3601 N. 156th St. while various Douglas County agencies showed off equipment and gave out candy to the steady crowd of children in a “trunk-or-treat” area outside.
The crowd was treated with a LifeNet helicopter takeoff and a chance to climb about the Sheriff’s Office’s MRAP, a mine-resistant, ambush-protected tactical vehicle that was used during recent flood recovery operations.
The Valley and Waterloo fire departments also had apparatuses on hand, including water rescue equipment, while a skeleton was featured inside a Douglas County Medical Examiner ambulance.
