A new study by CommercialSearch, an organization focused on commercial real estate reports, has found that Omaha is in the top 10 in the small cities category for outdoor enthusiasts.

The categories examined cities with a population above or below 500,000 and cities were scored out of 100 points on:

Walkability

Air Quality,

Number of Outdoor Sport Courts per 10,000 People

Number of Outdoor Fitness Zones per 10,000 People

Number of Parks per 10,000 People

Recreation Places within City Limits

Miles of Trails per 10,000 People

Miles of Walking Loops per 10,000 People

ParkScore Index provided by Trust for Public Land, a national nonprofit working to improve access to outdoor spaces

Omaha ranked 7th in the small cities category with a score of 50.91, with high scores in walking loops, miles of trails, and recreational areas. Omaha was found to have nearly 15 miles of trails per 10,000 people, a moderate walkability score, and a ParkScore of 52.7.

Lincoln, meanwhile, sat at 9th, with a score of 47.3, with a higher ParkScore than Omaha as well as more recreation areas, but less walkability and poorer air quality.

The Midwest scored 6 of the top 10 small cities, with Minneapolis and St. Paul, MN and Madison, WI.
