In a recent survey of the best cities for college graduates to start their careers in, Omaha ranked 15th in the large cities category. CoworkingCafe, an information hub for CRE news and reports, compared cities across the country based on employment, financial, and lifestyle opportunities in each city. The cities were split into three categories based on population: large cities with populations of over 400,000, small cities with populations less than 150,000, and medium cities sitting in-between.

Omaha ranked 15th overall out of 48 large cities. CoworkingCafe found that 31.7% of the population between the ages of 18-34 have a bachelor’s degree. Omaha had a 9.4% job rate for those fresh out of college, and an unemployment rate for those between 20-29 at only 4.5% which is well below the national average of 8.8%.

The city ranked high on its financial score with a median income for those with a bachelor’s at $53,000. Cost of living in Omaha was found to be 6% lower than the national average, and 63% of young people have employer-based health insurance. Omaha was also found to have over 300 different leisure amenities, which for this study was the number of restaurants, bars, and other entertainment areas per 100,000 people.

Lincoln, meanwhile, ranked 26th out of 93 mid-sized cities. It had similar job rates and unemployment rates as Omaha; 9% job rate and 3.7% unemployment rate; but their median income was only at $50,000. The percentage of young people with employer-based healthcare, however, was at 70%.
