OMAHA — Metro will provide free bus rides on Nov. 8, general election day.

On that day anyone will be able to board a Metro bus, ORBT or MOBY fare-free, according to an announcement by the transit company.

“Not having access to transportation should never be a reason not to vote,” said Metro’s chief executive, Lauren Cencic. “We are proud to offer Bus to Ballot to make it easier for riders to participate in the democratic process.”

This marks the fifth election Metro has offered the program, which is designed to eliminate a barrier to voting.

Riders can use MyRide OMA to route and track their bus trip to polling places.

Other Election Day transportation opportunities include:

  • Heartland Bike Share says it is offering free rides to help voters in the Roll to the Polls initiative. (Check out the BCycle app for free hourlong trips during that day, using the code VOTE22.)
  • Lyft will offer 50% discounts on ride shares.
  • Lime has a promo code for a free scooter ride to and from the polls.
