Posting Information: Notice published in the Daily Record on 04/11/2025.  Notice of meeting posted on the District website.  Agendas posted at all Bennington Public School buildings three days prior to the meeting date. 

 

Attendance Taken at 6:00 PM. Jeremy Dick: Present, Tim Dreessen: Present, Joe Pick: Present, Kristi Ryan: Present, Steve Shannon: Present, Allyson Slobotski: Present.

 

I.     Call Meeting to Order- Board President Allyson Slobotski called the meeting to order at 6:04 p.m. noting the meeting is governed by the Open Meetings Act, which is available on the south end of the room. 

 

II.   Public Forum- One person from the public was present to speak. 

 

III. Consent Agenda (Note: Items on the consent agenda are considered routine and will be enacted under one motion. There will be no separate discussion of these items at the meeting unless a Board Member requests an item removed from the agenda for separate action.)- Approval of Agenda, Approval of Minutes of the Monday, March 10, 2025 - Regular Meeting, Presentation of April Bills for Approval and Payment, Personnel: Resignation(s) and Hiring of Personnel

        April 2025 Personnel Notes- Certified Staff Hire:  Leah Palensky- PE teacher at BHS, Kendall May- elementary teacher at TBD, Emily Guinn- elementary teacher at TBD, Daisha DeLancey- elementary teacher at Anchor Pointe Cassandra Vallis- band teacher at BHS, Angela Murphy- .5 music teacher at Pine Creek, Jackson Cole- music teacher at Pine Creek, Brooklyn White- elementary teacher at Bennington Elementary, Callie Carlson- high school science teacher at BHS. Classified Staff Hire: Aubrey Guiterrez- life skills paraprofessional and a bus driver for the district, Joy Bollig- bus driver for the district, Elena Tristan- paraprofessional at Stratford Elementary, Lillian Rowell- student information systems clerk.  Certified Staff Resignations: Marshall Keough, Laura Scow, Heidi Heeren, Alex Saunders, Shawn Keizer.  Classified Staff Resignations: Melissa Meier, Susan Philby Anderson, Tracy Kerrigan, Lisa Hanus. 

 

IV.  Items Removed From the Consent Agenda for Separate Action- No items were removed from the Consent Agenda.

      Administrative Report:  Elementary - Alison Dellwo, Middle School - Lucas Apfelbeck, High School - Greg Lamberty, Student Services - Dan Bombeck, CIA - Shannon Thoendel, Operations - Matt Blomenkamp, Superintendent - Aaron Plas, Committee Report:  Building/Finance, Curriculum, Policy, Coordinator - Nutrition Services - Tracy Watsabaugh, Spotlight - Continuous School Improvement Process - Shannon Thoendel, Lobbyist – Dr. Plas.

VII. New Business

VII.A.  Discuss, Consider, and Take Action on Curriculum and Personnel Proposals- The Curriculum Committee is recommending low-cost proposal #22 for approval: Emerging English Language Learner (ELL) Course Credit. 

 

MOTION PASSED:  Motion to accept the recommendation by the Curriculum Committee for 2025-26 curriculum and personnel proposals #22 as outlined in the March 10th, 2025, Curriculum Committee Report and pending 2025-26 budget approval, passed with a motion by Allyson Slobotski and a second by Tim Dreessen.  Jeremy Dick: Yea, Tim Dreessen: Yea, Joe Pick: Yea, Kristi Ryan: Yea, Steve Shannon: Yea, Allyson Slobotski: Yea

 

VII.B.  Discuss, Consider, and Take Action on Summer Maintenance Purchases- The Building and Finance Committee unanimously recommended the following be approved for the 2024-25 summer maintenance and repairs:  District concrete repair, District parking lot striping, High School carpet replacement.

VII.C.  Discuss, Consider, and Take Action on Certified Staff Report- A list of non-tenured and tenured teaching and administrative staff for the 2025-26 school year was presented. All personnel on this list have indicated their intent to return to the district for next year. Policy 406.03 states it shall be the responsibility of the superintendent to complete the contracts for certificated employees and present them to the Board of Education for approval.

VII.D.  Discuss, Consider, and Take Action on 2025-2026 Lunch and Breakfast Prices- To help the district make decisions on the appropriate placement of pricing for meals, an array utilizing 18 metro school districts was created.  It was recommended to raise all meal prices $.15.

VII.E.  Discuss Next Steps and Times for Construction of Second High School- Following the passage of the bond issue, the District has been actively collaborating with key partners to begin the planning and development of the District’s second high school. An estimated timeline was presented.
