June 8, 2021
The meeting of the Board of the Village of Boys Town was held at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, June 8, 2021 in the Headquarters Building of Father Flanagan’s Boys’ Home in the Village of Boys Town, Nebraska.
Call to Order:
Chair Skartvedt called the meeting to order at 1:31 p.m.
Notice of Meeting:
The Notice of Meeting was posted on June 1, 2021, to Beacon and in the following designated public places in the Village of Boys Town: Town Hall, Visitor’s Center, and Headquarters. The Notice of Meeting was also published in The Daily Record on June 2, 2021.

Minutes of Prior Meeting:
Chair Skartvedt moved for approval of May 4, 2021 Minutes.
Upon MOTION duly made by Msgr. Gilg and seconded by Haack, the Consent Agenda and Minutes were accepted. The Village Clerk conducted roll call.

Special Presentation/Proclamation:
Newly elected Mayor, Maddie Hagan, shared her “why” to become Mayor was to be the voice of her peers. Maddie focused her campaign around unity to bring everyone together to support and help each other to succeed and is very excited and enthusiastic to represent her peers to ensure their voices are heard.
Maddie Hagan, Mayor of the Village of Boys Town, attended the meeting to make a very important proclamation on behalf of the citizens of Boys Town.
1. Proclamation of LGBTQ+ Pride Month, read by Maddie Hagan
Now therefore, let it be proclaimed by the Honorable Mayor, Maddie Hagan, that is National LGBTQ+ Pride Month.
Chief Executive Officer, Rod Kempkes:
Rod Kempkes shared some insight around the plans for construction of the new school and other information about future collaborations between the Village and FFBH. Rod thanked the Board for all their collaboration over the last couple years, the Village and FFBH are better because of that collaboration and looks forward to future cooperation.
Treasurer’s Report, Report on Claims to Be Paid, Report on Prepaid Claims:
The Village Treasurer reviewed the April 2021 Financial Report with the Trustees. The balance of all funds as of April 30 collectively $455,592.03. Detailed reports of claims to be paid are attached herewith and become part of the minutes. Chair Skartvedt solicited a motion for consideration of and to approve action on accounts of the Village Treasurer, to approve the Village General Fund allowance and payment of claims.
Upon MOTION duly made by Lindley and seconded by Haack, these matters were accepted. The Village Clerk conducted roll call:

Report of the Village Police Chief:
Chief Clark gave an update on the Police Department’s staffing and on the application process to fill the vacant FTE positions. The schedule has been updated and the SROs reallocated in the interim until positions are filled.
Report of the Village Engineer
& Superintendent:
Brett Wawers provided an update on the construction on Mother Theresa Lane and provided the Phase 1 Vicinity Map. The preliminary budget is being reviewed with Finance. There are small leaks in a pipe under the dam needing repair and some concrete work is necessary.
Other Business:
Appointment of Interim Trustee
Interviews are being scheduled with each of the individuals who have expressed interest in sitting on the Board. The vote to replace the interim Trustee will be conducted at the July 6th Board meeting.

Upon MOTION duly made by Msgr. Gilg and seconded by Haack, the board moved into closed session to discuss sensitive personnel matters. The Village Clerk conducted roll call:

There being no further business, upon motion duly made by Haack and seconded by Msgr. Gilg and carried by unanimous vote, the meeting adjourned at 2:09 p.m.
