Ralston City Council Regular Meeting
Tuesday, July 20, 2021

The Ralston City Council met in regular session on Tuesday, July 20, 2021 at 5:30 PM at Ralston City Hall. The Pledge of Allegiance was recited. Roll was called with the following present: Mayor Groesser and Council members Brousek, Fideline, Kavanaugh, Krause, and Preis. Council member Sanchez was absent. The agenda was available at City Hall for public inspection and posted prior to the meeting. The legal notice for the meeting was published in the Omaha Daily Record. Claims listed are approved and part of these minutes.
Pastor Lynette Janssen, Ralston United Church of Christ, gave the invocation. Mayor Groesser welcomed the press and guests. Groesser said the meeting is subject to the Nebraska Open Meetings Act. A copy of the Act is posted at the rear of the Council Chambers and is available to view on the City’s website at www.cityofralston.com.
Reviewed the following items under the consent agenda. (1)Minutes from the July 6, 2021 regular city council meeting; (2) Claims; (3) Monthly Financial Statements – May 2021; (4) Arena Financial Statements ending May 2021; and (5) Department Head and/or Commission Reports. Moved and seconded to approve the Consent Agenda. Aye: Brousek, Fideline, Kavanaugh, and Preis. Nay: None. Absent: Krause and Sanchez. Motion carried.
Peña reported summer reading is wrapping up and approximately 600 people participated. Over 1,000 free lunches were distributed in June alone; the Wildlife Encounters Event at Wildewood Park marks the end of the summer activities; Justine Ridder, Assistant Library Director/Youth Services Librarian, has resigned as she is moving back home to West Point.
Council member Krause arrived at 5:34 PM.
Krajewski reported on arena events: Jo Koy on July 30th; Styx on November 18th; Price is Right in December; Theresa Caputo on September 26th; REO Speedwagon on October 12th; Nelly on October 12th; Bare Knuckle Fighting Championships on August 14th; holds to confirm are two comedy shows, one family show, and roughly ten concerts between October and May 2023. The Omaha Beef won the CIF Championship last Saturday, beating Salina.
Russell reported there were two more SDL’s issued as of July 12, 2021 and they were for Bushwackers. To date, Bushwackers has received a total of five SDL’s.
Hoppe reported on LB566, the Shovel Ready Recovery and Investment Act, which is money set aside to use the state’s Cares Act money to try to fund projects that were interrupted by the pandemic.
Groesser read a Local Disaster Declaration due to the July 9 and 10, 2021 severe weather.

Public comment: There was no public comment.
Council comment: Brousek extended appreciation to the Public Works Department and the Fire Department for their work during the recent severe weather. Krause echoed the comments and extended appreciation to all city employees for their work. Preis agreed and also commented on the screen at Bushwackers being impressive. Groesser also thanked all the departments for a job well done.
