Eleventh Resident at Omaha Nursing Home Dies of COVID-19

An 11th resident at a west Omaha nursing home that’s been ravaged by the COVID-19 has died.

The Life Care Center of Elkhorn said a hospice patient succumbed to the virus last week. So far, 69 residents and 30 workers at the center have tested positive for COVID-19. The facility has been battling an outbreak of the virus since April.

State Offers Grants to Small Businesses for COVID-19 Relief

Nebraska small businesses and livestock producers that took a hit from the coronavirus pandemic will get the chance to apply for financial assistance starting Monday, state officials announced.

Iowa Eases Virus Rules For Bar, Restaurant Occupancies

Des Moines, Iowa – Iowa bars, restaurants, theaters and other businesses are now allowed to pack in more customers under a proclamation Gov. Kim Reynolds announced last week that she said reflects a decline in the coronavirus pandemic.

Myers: Douglas County Jail ‘Successful’ in Fighting Virus

More people in custody at the Douglas County Jail will be tested for coronavirus beginning this week.

Douglas County Corrections Director Mike Myers said Tuesday morning that testing will be expanded to about a hundred inmates a week at the jail as part of an effort to move inmates out of observation and into the general population more quickly, as incarcerations are expected to climb in the summer months.

Two Nebraska National Guard Members Test Positive for Virus

Lincoln – Two members of the Nebraska National Guard who helped police during recent protests have tested positive for coronavirus, and the Guard says they plan to test all its personnel still on duty in Omaha and Lincoln.

Nebraska Reports First Cases of New, Rare Syndrome in Children Potentially Linked to Coronavirus

Douglas County reported its first case of  a rare syndrome linked to coronavirus in children Monday, as a second statewide case was reported in Dawson County.

A boy under age 12 was hospitalized with atypical Kawasaki disease – a condition known as Multisystem Inflammatory Syndrome in Children, or MIS-C for short, which can lead to multiple organ inflammation.

Des Moines, Iowa – Iowa Republican lawmakers last Wednesday proposed a bill that would offer broad protection from coronavirus lawsuits for doctors, hospitals, nursing homes, meatpacking plants, restaurants and other businesses.

More Prison Employees Test Positive for COVID-19

More employees in Nebraska’s prison system have tested positive for COVID-19, as state health figures show the overall number of cases in the state surpassing 15,000.

A news release last Friday from the Nebraska Department of Correctional Services said two more state prisons employees tested positive this week for the virus, bringing the systemwide total to 18.
