A memorial will be held the week of Thanksgiving for a former United States District Court for the District of Nebraska judge who died last year.
Senior Judge Laurie Smith Camp died in September 2020 at age 66. The beloved judge has been recognized in several venues, including recently at the Omaha Bar Association’s Memorial Service and with the presentation of the Nebraska State Bar Association President’s Professional Award at the NSBA Annual Meeting.
Following her death, the district court allowed mourners to pay respects in her courtroom, with the intention of holding an event later due to the pandemic.
The district court will honor her at a ceremony Tuesday, Nov. 23, at 2 p.m. in the Hixson-Lied Auditorium in the Mike and Josie Harper Center at Creighton University, 602 N. 20th St.
The Omaha legal community is invited to attend the memorial ceremony, and a recording and transcript of the proceedings will be made available on the district court’s website.
