Two NE Nonprofits To Host Free Omaha Clinic On Building Generational Wealth

LINCOLN — Two Nebraska organizations are partnering to offer free individualized sessions Aug. 12 on how homeowners can build generational wealth.

The Omaha sessions will delve into how the homeowner can have more control over the future of their home, and how family benefits can accrue from that asset.

The generational wealth clinic sessions, co-hosted by Legal Aid of Nebraska, are to be held at the offices of the other co-host, Habitat for Humanity of Omaha, 1701 N. 24th St.

One-on-one sessions will be offered from 9 a.m. to noon. Registration is required, and will close Aug. 8.

A focus is on the Transfer on Death Deed, which transfers property to the named beneficiary, subject to any encumbrances on the property, without going through probate. The deed is a critical first step to building generational wealth, clinic sponsors said.

“Habitat Omaha does more than build houses,” said Lacey Studnicka, family services program director. We want to help build generational wealth from that home and ensure a home transfers properly to the next generation.”

She said that, unfortunately, the agency has seen many examples of that not occurring. “And it is like the next generation begins at zero and continues a cycle of poverty.”

Legal Aid volunteer attorneys will work with participants to prepare the deeds at the clinic. A valid form of ID is required at the clinic to complete the documents.
