Jeana Goosmann went to the University of Nebraska-Lincoln to major in business. Goosmann found her passion after being assigned to create a company for an entrepreneurship class. She found herself wondering: what does it mean to run a business? and the process it takes to open a company. Goosmann’s curiosity led her to law school. She was accepted into Creighton’s law school with the Muchmore scholarship which paid her tuition in full.
Goosmann’s passion for law was based on her desire to be involved with other people’s goals and watch them succeed. In 2002 she graduated from Creighton and passed the bar exam in Iowa, South Dakota, and Nebraska to become a lawyer in all three states. She got the opportunity to be a part of multiple businesses,
“It was the idea that entrepreneurs partner with you and you provide a service to help them achieve their goals,” Goosmann says. In becoming a lawyer, she got to put her talents to work for her clients.
After graduation, Jeana moved to Sioux City to be with her husband Chadd. She started at Heidman Law, a firm established 100 years ago. She practiced as a business and trial attorney until 2009 when she launched her own firm.
Goosmann Law Firm came right after the financial crisis of 2008 and was able to stay busy due to her bankruptcy creditors practice. Due to Goosmann’s high volume of work at the start she focused on recruiting attorneys. Five attorneys needed to be hired immediately while maintaining her client base. Her method of recruitment in 2009 is the same as today: Goosmann Law Firm looks for attorneys who fit their culture of small town values; team centered mentality; a focus on growth; positivity; producing quality work every case; and providing excellent service for their clients. They have grown from Jeana being the only on-staff attorney to now having 32 attorneys. The Goosmann Law Firm is the largest women-owned law firm in the Midwest and continues to grow. They find pride in giving freedom to the visionaries and trailblazers of America, allowing them to focus on what matters; to help protect the fruits of their hard work and give them what they deserve through means of law.
The law is changing faster than ever under this administration and with the technological innovation that we’ve been seeing in the past few years. Covid was a difficult time for people across the nation, but the Goosmann Law Firm was able to open their doors early in the pandemic and provide for their clients. There have been a lot of changes in employment law, so it was important to Goosmann to help employers navigate the complexities of a changing landscape. They thought about what aid was needed and how to be a resource.
“That’s what attorneys have to offer: knowledge,” Jeana says.
