Ricketts Makes Appointments to Judicial Nominating Commissions

Nebraska Gov. Pete Ricketts announced several appointments last week to judicial nominating commissions, as well as an appointment to the Nebraska Parole Board and several to a youth advisory group.

Nebraska Supreme Court Chief Justice Michael G. Heavican was named to the JNCs for the Supreme Court District 1 and Court of Appeals District 1.

Justice William B. Cassel was named to the JNCs for the Supreme Court District 2, Supreme Court District 6 and Court of Appeals District 2.

Justice Jeffrey J. Funke was named to the JNCs for the Supreme Court District 3, Supreme Court Chief Justice and Court of Appeals District 3.

Justice Lindsey Miller-Lerman was named to the JNC for the Supreme Court District 4.

Justice Stephanie F. Stacy was named to the JNCs for the Supreme Court District 5 and Court of Appeals District 5.

Justice John R. Freudenberg was named to the JNCs for the Court of Appeals District 4 and Separate Juvenile Court of Douglas County

Justice Jonathan J. Papik was named to the JNCs for the Court of Appeals District 6, Court of Appeals District 7, County and District Court District 12, Separate Juvenile Court of Lancaster County, and Workers’ Compensation Court.

Ricketts also appointed Mark T. Langan of Omaha to the Nebraska Board of Parole.

Additionally, new appointees joining  the Governor’s Youth Advisory Council are Eva L. Burklund, La Vista; Winston G. Chu, Kearney; Kieren Feeney, Hastings; Andreas “Drew” E. Huscher, Lincoln; Linda I. Kuku, Lincoln; Kelsey M. Larsen, Walthill; Joslyn I. Oglesby, Lincoln; Pranav Rajan, Lincoln; Tucker R. Stagemeyer, Page; and Mary C. Worthing, Ogallala.

Langan’s role would be paid and is subject to a confirmation vote by the Nebraska Legislature. The other appointments, including the judicial nominating commission positions, are unpaid and thus not subject to confirmation.
