OMAHA, Neb. – In celebration of National Recovery Month, PMP – Prevention Means Progress is sponsoring the Tenth Annual “Hands Across the Bridge for Recovery” on Saturday, September 10 at the Bob Kerrey Pedestrian Bridge.

PMP is an Omaha metro-wide coalition that aims to prevent substance misuse and addiction, in collaboration with Heartland Family Service, Big Brothers Big Sisters, Keystone Treatment Center, the Oxford House, Santa Monica House, and Valley Hope. These organizations have aligned to ask the public to help us reach our goal of joining 1,000 hands across the bridge in an effort to unite Omaha and Council Bluffs in a demonstration of support for recovery from substance misuse and addiction. The event is sponsored by Gem Financial, Talk About It Entertainment, and the Iowa Department of Public Health.

“We want to convey the important message to our community that prevention works, treatment is effective, and people do recover,” said Prevention Means Progress Director Lorelle Mueting.

Recovery Month promotes the benefits of treatment for substance use and mental health disorders, celebrates those in recovery, appreciates friends and family who support those in recovery, applauds the contributions of treatment providers, and promotes the message that recovery in all its forms is possible.

About Prevention Means Progress

PMP is a coalition of 56 organizations who collaborate in both Nebraska and Iowa and the Greater Metro Area. Its mission is empowering people to take action against substance abuse. Our culture values everyone’s contribution to prevention, treatment and recovery. PMP welcomes the participation of metro-area organizations and individuals who share a commitment to preventing all substance abuse and promoting education about the devastation caused by substance abuse and addiction.

Additionally, PMP has formed partnerships with local metro area schools to deliver prevention programming entitled Me360, a unique prevention strategy designed to deliver information to young people about many different substances of abuse, addiction, making choices and how to protect the things that are important in their lives.
