Like many others, Ashley and Nate Kloxin had big plans for 2020. By the time the pandemic hit, the couple already had the building lease and loan as franchisees at Perspire Sauna Studio’s first Omaha location. The Kloxins’ franchise of the infrared sauna business at 147th and Maple Streets opened in July of 2020 and has been a successful venture that the two hope to grow over time.
A strategic location and being serious about their own wellness journeys have played a part in that success. Nate said the Omaha Perspire has had many collaborations with the other wellness business located nearby. Massage Envy and The Exercise Coach are in the same business strip as Perspire and other wellness businesses are close by.
“We’ve only scratched the surface of people in Omaha,” Nate said. “We don’t compete with anything, we complement.”
Wellness-minded people will appreciate what Perspire’s saunas can bring to a holistic health approach with several benefits for the body and mind.
“Sauna sessions help alleviate depression and anxiety,” Ashley said. “Sauna use releases toxins and takes out that oxidated stress. We tell people we’re not here for a cure. We’re here to help you heal.”
The Kloxins recommended the sauna for athletes healing from an injury, people wanting peace and quiet for meditation, and as a place to stretch and practice yoga since the heat will keep muscles loose.
Ashley said sauna practice is great for the immune system, it lowers blood pressure, and helps with relaxation. She went on to say that as a passive aerobic exercise, guests will enjoy the benefit of burning calories, which can continue for a short time after the session has ended. Two of the biggest and most immediate improvements people see are improved sleep and softer skin.
“It’s very good for stress,” Ashley said. “It’s an escape for 40 minutes. A lot of moms like it because no one will bother them, and they can watch whatever they want on the TV.”
Sauna rooms can accommodate up to three people if guests prefer to chat with friends while enjoying the health benefits. Each private sauna room includes a TV so guests can watch TV or listen to music during their session. Others may choose to stretch it out, sit it in stillness, or bring a book with them. Each 50-minute room reservation includes a 40-minute session in the sauna and time before and after to change and settle into the space. Towel service is provided.
Guests can also select a color to suit their mood as part of the color light therapy aspect to the wellness business. Red is an energizing option while blue helps to soothe.
So how exactly do the saunas work? A traditional sauna heats up the air whereas an infrared sauna heats the body directly without warming the air around it. Perspire’s full-spectrum infrared saunas combine the infrared rays with the color light therapy. Unlike being outside, sauna use involves zero harmful UV rays. The full-spectrum sauna penetrates up to three inches into a body’s core, and temperatures range from 115 to 170 degrees.
Nate likes that his business allows people that are on their physical, mental, and emotional health journeys to leave better than they were when they arrived.
And how will people feel after a sauna session? It can range from euphoric to sleepy.
“Some people feel that rush of endorphins and are energized and talkative after,” Ashley said. “For others, it brings a deep sense of relaxation. Some guests opt for a late session so that they can go to sleep as soon as they get home.”
The Omaha Perspire location has a dedicated staff of five members and is open every day with morning, mid-day, and evening hours to suit everyone’s availability. People interested in trying it out can book a single session or sign up for a membership which offers discounted rates compared to single sessions. Appointments can be booked online, over the phone, or in-person. Health Savings Account credit cards are accepted in addition to all major credit cards.
“We want to be successful so you can flourish in the future,” Nate said. “We often neglect our own self-health, but health is critical to how people enjoy life.”
