Nebraska Gov. Pete Ricketts has lifted the requirement that liquor be sold in its original packaging, allowing mixed drinks to be sold by bars and restaurants during the pandemic.

Executive Order 20-09 modifies Ricketts’ earlier order allowing bars and restaurants to sell alcohol for takeout, curbside or delivery.

“This change will allow pre-made cocktails and other alcoholic beverages to be sold so long as the containers are sealed with a lid or other method of securing the product, and not partially consumed,” according to the order.

The previous order allows Class A retail liquor license holders to have the same rights as Class B holders, and Class I license holders have the same rights as Class C holders.

The orders seek to provide relief for bar and restaurant holders. In several Nebraska counties, representing more than half the state’s population, directed health measures have curtailed public gatherings. Elsewhere, voluntary guidelines discourage people form dining at restaurants or drinking at bars, suppressing sales and challenging businesses to innovate.
