ORBT Puts Top on First Station at Westroads Mall
Metro installed the first ORBT station canopy last Tuesday at the Westroads Transit Center near the new Topgolf Omaha at Westroads Mall. Similar installations are being conducted at additional locations along the route for Omaha’s forthcoming rapid transit system.
The new canopies were fabricated by Dimensional Innovations in Overland Park, Kansas.
ORBT, short for Omaha Rapid Bus Transit, expected to be fully operational sometime this fall.
The route will connect Westroads to downtown, passing more than 50,000 jobs within a quarter mile of its stations. Wi-Fi will be offered at stations and onboard, along with bike racks and level boarding.
ORBT will use new business access and transit lanes along Dodge Street east of 30th Street. The lanes will be reserved for public transit and vehicles making right turns.
West of 30th Street, ORBT will notify traffic signals to extend green lights, reducing congestion.
