OMAHA — The City of Omaha is hosting a free interactive lecture and panel discussion Dec. 2 (today!) to explore why people and workers are leaving Nebraska’s most populated city for opportunities elsewhere and to help find solutions to “brain drain.”
The “Talent x Place: Building a City Where People Want to Stay” event is organized by “We Make Omaha” — a public engagement effort for the City of Omaha’s new, 20-year comprehensive plan for growth and development.
The comprehensive plan is expected to be complete next year, replacing Omaha’s current Master Plan that was adopted in 1997.
Leading the lecture and presenting the latest research will be Josie Schafer, director of the Center for Public Affairs Research at the University of Nebraska at Omaha. Also featured will be interactive audience polling and a cross-industry panel discussion.
The free public event from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. will be held at Creighton University’s Mike and Josie Harper Center. Those attending will learn more about how planners, educators, business leaders and economic developers hold part of the solution, organizers said in a news release.
To register and learn more about the event, visit wemakeomaha.org/events. Spanish and ASL interpretation will be available. A limited number of free rideshare rides are available, organizers said.
