Nebraska’s Senators Comment on Barrett’s Confirmation

Published by Nikki Palmer on Thu, 10/29/2020 - 12:00am

Chief Justice John G. Roberts, Jr., right, administers the Judicial Oath to Judge Amy Coney Barrett in the East Conference Room of the Supreme Court Building, Tuesday, Oct. 27, 2020, in Washington as Judge Barrett’s husband, Jesse M. Barrett, holds the Bible. A formal investiture ceremony will take place at a special sitting of the Court in the Courtroom at a later date. (Fred Schilling/Supreme Court of the United States via AP)

During the confirmation process, Judge Barrett made it clear that she has the judicial temperament, respect for rule of law, and adherence to the Constitution necessary to serve on our highest court. I was pleased to vote for such an accomplished person, and I am confident that she will be loyal to the Constitution as an Associate Justice.”

— Sen. Deb Fischer

“Despite the efforts of rabid partisans, Amy Coney Barrett is on the Supreme Court. Progressives tried to destroy her. Conspiracy theorists attacked her faith. Desperate politicians besmirched her character. Some hacks even launched disgusting assaults on her family. But Americans tuned out the nonsense and got to know this tremendously impressive nominee. Justice Barrett is a brilliant originalist who will shape the Supreme Court for generations. This is good news for every American because she rises above the partisan gamesmanship and applies the law faithfully with no hidden agenda. Her loyalty is to the Constitution, and her fearless independence will build confidence in American system. Congratulations, Justice Barrett.”

— Sen. Ben Sasse
